Doesn't work any more, won't download in the background, many times just locks up. Hesitant to donate on a system that doesn't work

When you post a question, please assume we are not in the room with you. Q: What Operating System you use. Windows 10, MAC, Ubuntu etc Q: What version of thunderbird is currently in use.

Work down through the following: Please make sure your Firewall has Thunderbird set up as an allowed program. Please make sure you do not have any Anti-Virus product that is allowed to scan any Thunderbird profile folder. Do not allow any file clean-up software to have any access to any thunderbird profile folder. Please make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Please make sure you have compacted your folders especially, Inbox, Drafts and Junk/Spam because your files may be larger than you think.

Q: Have you tested Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode.

  • Help > Troubleshoot Mode
  • select 'Restart'
  • Select 'Continue in Troubleshoot Mode'

Run for a decent amount of time. Q: Does this improve the situation?

Q: What type of mail account are you talking about? POP or IMAP ? Q: How many mail accounts have you got? Q: do you get any error messages - if yes - post an image of them.
