Thunderbird repeatedly sending "failed login" message after switching ISP's, i.e. obsolete account

After the most recent update of Thunderbird (this morning), I keep getting a failed login message for my old ISP. It used to only do this once and I would X out of that message and it would only repeat when I restarted the program. Now it keeps trying to log on to my old ISP (using my old email address and log-on credentials) and flashes me a "failed login" message about every 5 minutes or so. I considered deleting that account in Thunderbird, but I am not a tech wizard and was afraid I would lose all of my old messages. Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Chosen solution

If this is a POP account, you could create folders in Local Folders, and then highlight the messages in inbox (and other folders) and copy to the new folders. Once done, you could then delete the old account.

David: A simple, yet brilliant solution. Thank you so much. I guess that's why I never worked in tech support. Just proves the adage, sometimes the simplest solution is the best solution.
