Thunderbird emoticons
Hi,
Is there absolutely no way I can download an add-on to use emoticons in my emails? I came across one that was supposed to be fine for version 102 but I tried it and it needs a signature? The ones I've looked at are nothing like the ones I had previously which mysteriously disappeared after I uploaded the latest version - which is now 102.1.2.
If you could tell me one way or the other, then I'll stop looking.
Thanks
Ann

There are several addons for emoji. Is that what you're seeking?
Thanks David for responding - I didn't expect a reply!
I've downloaded a number of emoticon programs from Google but when I try to install, I get a window which says that it needs a signature, or needs to be signed off by Firefox. I'm getting nowhere. I believe that they will not run with my latest version of Thunderbird?

Are you trying to install an addon? which one? What are the emoticon programs you are referring to? Your original statement requested info on adding an addon, but that doesn't seem to be what you want. I mentioned availability of some addons for emojis, so I'm a bit confused.
Hi David,
I'm not into the technical words for "add-ons, extensions" etc. I just want to have a selection of emoticons, like I used to have before the latest update for TB.
I've tried this one..........
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/emojiaddin/
This one........
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/emoji-menu/
Then I get a window which says........
"This add-on could not be installed because it could not be verified"
I feel that this is not possible?
Ann
Ann, you can only use addons that are verified to work with your version of Thunderbird. The one you were looking at is for older versions at present. The safest way to ensure you use verified addons is to use only those that you can find from Tools>addons menu. I believe there are three listed, but I encourage investigating each to see which one does what you want.
Thanks David,
But there was one that I used that was compatible with V.1.2 TB but I still got the same message - so confused!
I'm nowl having a look at the ones you suggest.
Ann
Just tried the suggested Add-on.
I've already tried this one as it's compatible with 102.
I'm getting the same window -
"This add-on could not be installed because it could not be verified"
Ann
I did not recommend one; I indicated there might be three. Which one are you referring to?
If I go into Tools/Add-ons, I get a page Manage your Extensions with a list of things.......... One is Emoji.
Version 1.102.9.

I use 102.1.2 and it installed easily. What version are you using? In doing the install, there is a prompt to accept it and then it installs.
This is crazy!! I'm using the same version. I clicked on the website I sent you above and my "TotalAV" said that "it had been blocked due to being categorised as Adware". Then I could click on a box saying to override this but got the same window again - "blocked due to being ........... etc. "It is strongly advised that you do not visit this website as it may contain advertisements and social engineering tricks for adware which could harm your device."
Should I just give up?
PS - thanks for you help in this but I feel I'm getting nowhere!
Ann
I am puzzled. The addon is not downloaded from the URL you sent. It is downloaded from the Thunderbird addon site. Are you adding it from tools>addons pane in Thunderbird?
I could email you a copy if all else fails, unless your email is gmail, which would prevent it.
I'm doing as you said above i.e. TB/3 horizontal lines/Addons & themes/emoji
I have other email addresses than GMail.

??
File sent. let me know if you receive it.
You're on W10, so just use the built-in emojis and symbols: Windowskey+. (period).
Thanks David - working on it now.

I saved the file to my Desktop and used the Gear symbol to "install add-on from file".
Now getting a window which says "this add-on could not be installed because it appears to be corrupt".
I've just double clicked on the icon and "extract to" Desktop. Another warning about not installing unless I trust it etc. so I think it has gone ahead.
I've re-started and it does work!! They are a bit limited but better than TB ones.
Thanks so much for your help!
Ann
SFHowes,
Interesting. Didn't know about these.
Thanks very much!
