Other than you manually editing :) There is an addon which can help - ImportExportTools NG

How to install addon:

Once installed

  • Menu icon > Addons and Themes > Extensions
  • locate the ImportExportTools NG addon
  • Click on the spanner icon
  • select the 'filenames' tab

Set options: eg: Subject and Date and blank I've added an image below as a guide. Select checkbox 'Use following format' I chose 'Subject' and 'Date' and I wanted a 'blank' on last option.

To use the addon settings rather than the default Thunderbird settings:

  • right click on email and use 'save selected messages > EML format'
  • Choose folder where to save and click on 'Select Folder'
