I often need to copy and paste a URL from the address bar into my Word document. It used to be easy to select, copy and past but no longer. Have tried various Firefox extensions and thought it would work, but so far no success. It's something I need right now. (I also often need to do the same with content.) Please help.

While I'm waiting for help with my own question, I'm curious about this problem.

What exactly goes wrong when you try to copy/paste a URL?

Can you copy the address successfully?

Or is the problem with pasting it into Word?

Can you paste it somewhere else ok?

You can check this pref on the about:config page and possibly toggle its value to true to see if that has effect.

  • about:config => browser.urlbar.decodeURLsOnCopy

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

I followed your directions and changed the browser.urlbar.decodeURLsOnCopy to TRUE from False. No success. BUT I disabled enhanced tracking protection for the site and was able to Past Special. Still not as easy as before, but at least it's possible. I'd like to suggest this be restored. It's bad enough for me to switch to another browser altogether, which I'd rather not do.

@brynn2. Good question. I cannot paste a URL into my Microsoft Word document BUT I could copy and paste it into a blank email. What does that mean?

I'm not sure. But that would give me a clue to look at Word. Maybe there's some setting that got changed somehow?

Unfortunately, it's been so long since I've used Word, I couldn't tell you exactly where to look.

But I know in the word processor that I use, it has an Edit mode. Sometimes it gets switched to Read Only, and I have to switch to Edit mode. Maybe Word has something similar?
