Search suggests sites from "bookmarks" that I have not bookmarked

For some reason url search suggests sites that I have not bookmarked but have visited in the past. I often delete history + data, and even with delete and restart the sites popup in the suggestions. The only way I have found to remove the suggestions is to set browser.urlbar.suggest.bookmark to false. What is causing this and how can I fix this? I'm using Firefox 87.0 64bit.

The problem is not that I cannot find the settings. The problem is that search suggests me sites that are not in search history or in bookmarks. In Address Bar settings if I turn off the "Bookmarks" option the sites are no longer suggested. "Search suggestions" settings are also turned off.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this issue does not happen all the time.

When you posted your question, your browser identified itself as Chrome 89, not Firefox 87. ??

Just to clarify the sources of the different suggestions, here's an example drop-down:

Do the bookmarks that you did not intentionally save have the blue star on the site icon indicating that Firefox is finding them in your bookmarks?

If so, do you use any extensions that save open tabs in bookmarks, such as

Firefox is my main browser, I use Chrome for some sites that aren't working correctly on FF as I have ad blockers etc on it. I don't have any bookmark managing extensions and the suggestions were not saved as bookmarks at any point.

Currently there are no "wrong" sites showing in suggestions, but when they did they had the default round globe(?) icon, no stars or tab symbols. Clearing history and manually deleting the cookie file did not help.

I think a globe icon without a star might indicate a history entry without a site icon, but that would be odd if it's a fresh entry, unless it redirected, in which case Firefox only stores the icon for the final address.
