using hmailserver at home

I wanted to set up a email server using hmailserver after i configured everything and tried to use Thunderbird as a email client it will not connect one of the emails are bob@kingsplace.local i have tried many other places and tried and retried to put in different ports i currently have all the email ports allowed throw my firewall i would also like to try and set one up for fun but this is the only thing that blocks me if some on can get back to me and help solve this problem i would be grateful

is Thunderbird and the hmailserver running on the same machine? or different ones?

Both programs are on the same computer but I have also tried it on different computer and

As the two are on the same computer, the communications between the two products will be occurring on IP address 127.0.0.1 or what is known as the local loopback address or localhost. Often anti virus product block access to this interface as it has been used by malware to communicate in the past. So perhaps that is where the issue lies, not in either of the apparently non functioning products.
