ALL my Local Folders are MISSING this morning!!

They were THERE last night ... GONE this morning.

I ran NO Thunderbird Updates (have selected tell me BEFORE AUTOMATIC UPDATES run) ...

Changed no VIEWS, or anything.

I just spent days updating and creating new ones. I have used Thunderbird for years.

Where are they???

HELP!!!

I just downloaded and re-installed Thunderbird.

Still NO Local Folders.

Sooooooooooo frustrating.

Thanks for your idea.

Later ....

Thanks to everyone who replied with a recommendation!

I just started over with creating Local Folders under my Inbox Line and it's OK.

I can access and see them from all my laptops, PC and other devices.

Getting better acquainted with Thunderbird now.

Best regards.

Check the profile manager for multiple profiles. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles

It is also possible that you are still using the old original profile, but for some unknown reason, Thunderbird could not open 'Local Folders' and so created a new one and called it 'Local Folders-1'.

You could check this by looking in the Account Settings > Local Folders in 'Local directory:' make the window wide enough to see all the text. at the end of the text does it say 'Local Folders-1' ? If yes, edit that line so removing the -1 and then restart Thunderbird OR click on the 'Browse' button and locate the original 'Local Folders' mail account It is likely to be here:

  • C:\Users\User Account name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\profile name folder\Mail\Local Folders

sometime after an auto-update , newer versions of TB=Thunderbird changes the TB-Profile folder to a new one & cannot properly load all earlier profile data & settings into the new profile, so i think , your "Local Folders" folder remained inside your older profile. in windows, TB-profile folder is usually here: "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\<old-profile-name>\" that is usually equal to: "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<old-profile-name>\" to see folder in above locations, you will have to enable viewing hidden files in Windows File Explorer. TB-profile folder looks like this: "xxxxxxxx.profile-name" where each x in xxxxxxxx is a random alphanumeric char. just copy or move the entire "Local Folders" from TB-old-profile, into the TB-new-profile folder. to find out what exact new-profile name is used by last TB in your computer, you can/may do this: goto TB main menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > about:profiles > Root Directory. the last sub-folder shown in the "Root Directory" line, is the TB "profile" folder name. always make or keep a backup of all TB profiles, before doing copy/move/install/uninstall, etc. More/Related Info: • Disable AV/FW/SS software mail-protection OR enable+add+allow EXCEPTIONS in it & add mail-server names/address . Some AV/SS creates insecure proxy/gateway for scanning/checking emails, but there are other secure way to scan/check emails . Please make sure the option "Allow AV to Quarantine email" is selected inside TB, and make sure your AV/SS is set to "Scan all files on access". • Disable auto-update or update of TB. (please upvote my Q+A both, inside the linked page, if its useful/helpful).
