Around 12/4/20, I started getting error 80004005 when trying to send outgoing email through the gmail.com or googlemail.com smtp server.

I tried creating a new smtp entry, re-entering the password, using gmail.com or googlemail.com, and different ports, but nothing works.

Has anyone else encountered this, and better still, a solution?

Set the 'Authentication method' in your server settings to 'OAuth2'. Enter your Google password when prompted, and give permission for Thunderbird to access your Gmail account. You may also need to allow cookies for https://accounts.google.com in Thunderbird.
