Saving the file associations to handlers.json no longer works
I work on local web platform where I need to have quick access to several thousands of Word documents. I access these docs by clicking a link on the platform. To speed up things, I had all the file associations saved in this file:
Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile_name>\handlers.json
This way, each file opens quickly, without Firefox asking me about the application I'd like to use to open it.
These associations also show up in this menu: 'OPTIONS -> GENERAL -> FILE & APLICATIONS -> Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web or the applications you use while browsing.'
Ever since updating Firefox to version 84.0, this no longer works, as Firefox is once again showing up a small window, with this question:
"Allow this site to open the '<file_association_name>' link?"
I believe something changed with this latest version, as I have not changed anything to my configuration.
My goal is to save these associations so that I can skip this question when opening a file. Checking the "always allow" option won't help me that much since I have thousands of Word files.
So, it used to work by saving these associations to the 'handlers.json' file, but ever since I updated to the latest version, this no longer works.
Any idea about what could be the problem?
Thank you,
Alex
