Clicking search short cuts has been changed with last update, how to revert?

With the last update the behavior when pressing a search enginge icon in the adress bar has been changed.

When the icon is pressed the search shortcut is entered. Before the update a click on one of those icons started the search immediately. I know that this behaviour can be used if the shift-key is pressed while clicking the icon. But that is not how I like to use it and I dont see any benefits from this change.

How can I change to the old behaviour? I want clicking on a search engine icon in adressbar = start search immediately.
