Links from other programs opening a new window (without my credentials saved)

On my Windows PC, I have Firefox set as my Default browser. Whenever I click on a link from another program (email client for instance), it opens a new Firefox window. The issue is that I have to login to the website again, even if its already open in another window.

For instance: Firefox main window - I login to website ABC, sometimes using Multi-factor authentication.

I then click on a link from my email client that also points to website ABC. A new Firefox window opens up and I have to re-authenticate into website ABC.

Its very frustrating having to re-authenticate everytime I click on a link. I am logged into Firefox and have Sync turned on. Am I missing something?
