Umlauts not working in last firefox version

Since I've installed the last firefox version 77.0.1 I haven't been able to type umlauts using my italian keyboard. Any other application on my mac still allows me to type umlauts by holding the "u" and then typing the letter, like I always did. Firefox used to allow the same shortcut, but since the last version it doesn't work anymore. Anybody has an idea why that might be?
