Mac opens two windows when clicking on a link from mail application

Does anyone know how to disable Firefox from opening two windows when clicking on a link through a mail application? If Firefox is closed, every time I click on a link through a mail application, Firefox opens the link AND a second window set to my homepage. It is so annoying. Any tips?
