I have Avast Secure LineVPN installed and when it is connected I get an error message when I try to send email. When I disconnect the VPN message is sent.
Is there some setting that will allow me to send as well as receive email when Avast SecureLine is connected?

Sending with TB through a VPN is a hit-and-miss process. Since you generally aren't trying to hide your location from your recipients, as you might with a web browser, turning off the VPN to send is probably the best option.

Do the instructions here offer any guidance? Sending may depend on how strictly the mail provider accepts connections from VPN servers.
I tried the suggested fix and no variant seemed avoided some type of error message on attempting to send a test message while VPN is connected. But thanks for the reference. I should have thought to check with Avast.
Follow up -- the port number was already set at 587 of the two choices in the reference so I tried changing it to the other choice, 465. Also tried each of these port numbers with change of encryption from none to SSL/TLS as suggested.
