Why did Thunderbird stop connecting with the smtp Verizon/AOL server for outgoing email?

more options

At some point, on the evening of 6 April 2020, my Thunderbird stopped connecting with the Verizon/AOL smtp and will not send out email. It wants me to type in a new password, but that doesn't solve the problem. This has happened before and I have solved it by making a donation to Thunderbird, although I don't actually know if there is a connection. Today, 7 Apr 2020, the problem still persists. I can go thru my browser to the AOL mail site, but I don't like to do that because it doesn't have the old emails that I have saved for reference. Nor does it have all the addresses that I send email to stored.

There seems to be problem with Verizon/AOL smtp servers. Yours is one of multiple threads here with the same issue affecting Verizon. More external reports are being made about the same here https://downdetector.com/status/aol/

Hi, there! I've been having similar problems connecting to certain folders on my AOL mail account for the past few months. AOL seem to have changed their access specifications. Check out this site: https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-set-up-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-verizon-net-mail and make sure your AOL account in TB is set up as specified by AOL. If not, change settings or delete the account in TB and set it up again. Hope that will help. Greetings Juergen
