Hi, sorry no solution for your problem, but running into the same problem! Found anything yet?
Hello there Thomaswells.
We have read your message.
This one option for you.
If your screen turns out to be blank
by the startup of Thunderbird.
If you can ,try to put out all add ons. And then the Extensions also.
Then run Thunderbird again into safe modus this time.
You can see if it’s the add -on or extension.
If your Thunderbird starts again then let the bad extensions be gone.

If you are not sure take a newer version type from us. Down here.

Do you have a good anti virus on your pc? Which one?

Using Mac with Catalina. Couldn't do anything about safe mode. Too late.
Finally downloaded complete new 68.6.0 (64 bit) which came up normally except all my emails, address book, email accounts were gone.
First, I had to reinstall my email account from scratch - the old one was completely unavailable.
Then after much fiddling, I found the old
/Users/xxxx/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/xxxxxx.default/Mail/Local Folders-1
under Tools->Account settings and managed to get my saved emails back. Address book is back but not yet verified to be complete.
Don't really know what happened except I believe the installer failed to pick up all the prior data from the previous version of Thunderbird, which was only one release back (the immediately prior release.)
Still a little wary of the whole thing now. May have to switch to another client if anything else goes wrong. Sorry.
Tom
I'm running Mac OS High Sierra. Same problem. So not specific catalina related i guess.
Also deleting en rebuilding the SQL db did not work (it recreated the Db, but no visible mails)
So for some reason your startup failed to use the old" "xxxx.default profile?

Wayne,
That would appear to be correct.
FYI, I always accept the defaults for installing Thunderbird, so its files should be right where the install program is looking.

Just to be clear - you were able to find the profile with the data, right?
Finally got most of it back - except for a lot of my contacts. They appear to be gone forever...
I'm having to re-enter dozens (quite a few dozens!) of the missing contacts manually. Bringing some back from gmail. What a mess.
