I have two accounts setup in Thunderbird. I receive desktop notifications in one account but not the other. I have been digging through the settings but I cannot figure out why. I have attached a screenshot of the Troubleshooting Information page.

Unfortunately this is not an answer, but I am also affected by this problem. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Here are some details about my configuration:

  • Thunderbird version 68.7.0. (package 1:68.7.0+build1-0ubuntu2)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 20.04 (kernel 5.4.0-26-generic) using Gnome
  • In the Thunderbird settings, notifications are enabled.

I have set up a total of four different accounts, but Thunderbird displays notifications only for the account that is presently highlighted. To be precise: Notifications may not be shown for the account set as default, when I previously selected an other account (e.g. inbox on the drop-down menu at the left).

The latest release version from Mozilla is 68.7.0. Presumably you're using a Thunderbird version provided by an Ubuntu repository. That is not the vanilla Thunderbird version from https://www.thunderbird.net/

Try to remove the Ubuntu version of Thunderbird, and use the vanilla version instead.

Follow the instructions 'Installing outside of a package manager'.

Thank you for your reply!

The different version might be true for the first post, but I have actually the most recent version. I checked again and downloaded directly from the official side, but it was the exact same version.

I also installed birdtray, which helps a bit since it shows a small icon, but it still does not show notifications.
