how do you make a repeat task repeat and can you confirm that it will

When you create a new task (Ctrl+D), the Repeat box sets the frequency for it to repeat. If you then open the Tasks tab, select Current Tasks for Show in the left pane, all the tasks for the repeating task are displayed in the right pane. As for confirmation, I guess you will have to do a test.
