I read an archived answer to a similar question from a user, Jim Sims, but the reply to his question is way over my head. I have no clue what to do to fix it. Several months ago I had a problem with ? symbols appearing when I didn't type them. There was a solution I found in the help section to fix it. I followed a very long trail of instructions that solved that problem. I'm guessing I need a similar solution.

who is your email provider? (I am guessing yahoo in one of it's guises as BT, AOL, Verizon and ATT)

We live in the country and have fiber optic lines providing our phone and internet service through Myakka Communications in Myakka City FL. My email address was actually taken over a few years ago by AOL when Verizon dumped email accounts.

Well your email account is now administered on Yahoo. Lucky you. Inept is the only description I feel I can offer for them. However you do need to make some changes to cope with the buggy Yahoo system.

As I have posted this a lot of times I have decided to put it on my blog, instead of writing it out again and again without the benefit of pictures..

Nice of them to tell me Yahoo has me now. I keep junking messages asking me to update my Yahoo account - I thought it was just spam! Thanks so much for the info from your blog. I went ahead and followed the steps and checked the box you recommended. I won't know if it worked until tomorrow when I send a message to someone. I'll confirm with you if that has worked. I really appreciate your assistance.

Completely Off-topic FYI.

Verizon bought AOL in 2015 for $4.4 Billion https://money.cnn.com/2015/05/12/investing/verizon-buys-aol/index.html Verizon bought Yahoo in 2017 for $4.48 Billion https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/13/technology/yahoo-verizon-marissa-mayer.html

So technically your email was not "taken over a few years ago by AOL when Verizon dumped email accounts"

Verizon created a new "division" called Oauth that took over all their mail business as well as AOL and Yahoo. That Verizon have written down the value of the division to about half what they paid for it really make the 4 billion dollar losses eye watering.

On a personal note, you should be aware that the marketing strategy being used relies heavily in your browsing history recorded by Verizon as you internet provider being used to serve adds through Oauth advertising business. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/06/oath-verizon-completes-4-5-billion-buy-of-yahoo-and-merges-it-with-aol/

So you might be getting yahoo spam, or you might be getting notified about your email address. it really is a mess that is difficult to follow and even more difficult to live with if some of the stories I have seen here are any indication.
