What is the creature displayed in the 'Unable to connect' screen?

Me colleague and I had a disagreement over what the creature shown in the 'Unable to connect' screen is. I say it's a hamster, while he claims it is obviously a dragon-like creature.

The picture itself had no description of it and I could not find this question being asked anywhere else.

Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreciated,
