The back button doesn't often work

Often times when I click the back button, it doesn't work. I'll have to click it a lot and hope it brings me to the last page I was on. This is for any kind of site so I'm not sure why I'm experiencing this recently. Tried with all extensions disabled and nothing

You can hold the left mouse button on the Back/forward buttons to open the tab session drop-down list. That way you can see what items are in the list and select the one you need. Note that you can middle-click or hold Ctrl and left-click to open a link in the list in a new tab like you can with other links.

I get around this by; When I find a link I want to check out, I open it in a new tab/window. Then when I am done, I close it and am back where I started.
