Message Filters run fine manually, but not automatically since 60.5.0 update

more options

Hello Thundrbird Flock,

I upgraded to latest Thunderbird 60.5.0 on Windows 7.

Works great, but the message filters don't run automatically.

If I go and run them manually, they do work fine, but they don't run automatically like the used to.

Haven't made any other changes at all -- just did the update.

They are still checked off...haven't changed them in any way.

A similar thread says that they sometimes don't work if you play sounds. None of mine play sounds.

Only Add-ons I use are Lighting and Send Later and MS Office 2003 Theme. I had NO Glass, but that was automatically disabled with this update as being not compatible.

What might have changed that the don't run now?

Thank you for your consideration,

Mark

I think the issue may be solved:

What I did per an older thread I found Googling:

1) Went to HELP Menu 2) Chose Troubleshooting 3) Located Profile Folder 4) Exited Thunderbird 5) Backed the the ENTIRE Folder (may have to go up one level to grab whole folder) I just grabbed the whole folder and did a Copy -- Paste into My Documents folder, just in case 6) Did a search in the actual Profile folder for all of *.msf files 7) These are "index" type files and not actual message file 8) I deleted ALL of the *.msf files for ALL of my accounts 9) Once deleted, went back into Thunderbird 10) It will APPEAR that it is re-downloading all of your IMAP messages...ALL OF THEM, but it does not duplicate them. It is just re-building indexes 11) For the Fun of it, when it was done, I also chose Setting --> File --> Compact Folders (I had already done this before, and it solved nothing, but I did it again after deleting the *.msf files just to be safe) 12) Message rules are working automatically again! 13) No signs of any damage from deleting the MSF files...They appear to get rebuilt automatically.  ;)

TL/DR

Backup Your Profile Delete All the *.msf files Let it download/rebuild everything File - Compact Folders

This fixed Automatic Message Rules not functioning.

Hope this helps someone.

Idea was from here and it worked: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2908013&start=0

If I click, "Run Filters on Folder", they work just as they always have, but they don't run automatically, when emails are downloaded since the last update.

Thank you!!!!

I tried re-starting Thunderbird with Add-ons disabled (Safe Mode).

The message filters run the same way in safe mode:

1) They work manually. 2) They DO NOT work automatically.

They always did...

Update to version 60.5.0 broke automatic message filters.

The are "checked" and enabled.

They just won't run!

Anyone have any ideas why they work manually, but won't work automatically????

I can't explain your results, as my simple filters work fine in 60.5. Did you enable the filter log and notice anything recorded when they fail to run, or check the Activity Monitor?
