Firefox consistanly returns slower speeds from Speedtest than does Internet Explorer; why?

I have been having gateway problems with our recent AT&T installation, so i started running their Speedtest, which, according to the site, is from dslreports.com. If this is the case, i have no reason not to trust the accuracy.

I have run the speed test multiple times from FireFox (most recent edition available from their site - after a number of slow readings i wiped the old install clean and did a fresh install. Also ran FF in Safe Mode), Edge and Internet Explorer. Very confusing results. Firefox reported download values that ranged from 2.98Mps to 123Mps, with the average at about 48Mps. Same test run on Edge reported slightly better results (though definitely not run as many times) with an approx average at 75Mps. Running the same tests on Internet Explorer I repeatedly and consistantly had values in excess of 100Mps.

Tests were run in the same time frames, closing out one browser and then running the other, then the other, going back and forth at different times of the day.

Thoughts on this (besides it being messed up...)?
