Cannot find Firefox bookmarks in my old Windows XP Documents and Settings folder. Where is it, and what is the name of the file? Not sure what version of Firefox I was using, that computer is gone now. Thanks in advance for any help.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 28.0 r0 Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.113 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover specific data.

  • Thank you James as it seems like a decade ago that I used XP and I had forgot they were in a separate place than they are now.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox On Windows 2000 and Windows XP, profile folders are in this location, by default:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>

The Application Data folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open Windows Explorer and choose "Tools → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".

James has the steps to find your old Firefox data.

This article has other methods for showing hidden files and folders if needed: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Within your old profile folder, look for a folder named bookmarkbackups which should contain files with names similar to:

bookmarks-2018-06-26_6098_gibberish==.jsonlz4

So the file name shows the date and the number of items in the backup. For ease of access, I suggest copying a few of these to your desktop.

Then you can use the Restore feature, click "Choose File" and point Firefox to one of the old files (this is when it's convenient to have them on the desktop instead of buried in the old folder structure). See:

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

Files were not in this location.

@Kieya, if they were not at that location then it means the User deleted them or uninstalled and cleared those directories. That would mean there is nothing more that can be done here find them if those locations are gone already.

Hi Kieya, how far did you get down the path toward your old data? Did you find the Firefox folder?
