Installing Enigmail in Ubuntu: your instructions are perfectly clear BUT Ubuntu (17.10) software centre has no link to Enigmail.

I want to protect my email security with encryption. The instructions say to open Ubuntu software centre, put 'Enigmail' in the search box... That won't work because 'Enigmail' is not listed at all in Ubuntu (17.10) software centre.

Please could I have your advice? Thanks.

In Ubuntu the enigmail package is in the Universe repository.

Is this enabled on your system? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu for more details.

BTW which instructions were you looking at? I may be able to fix them or ask someone to do so.

Thanks for the link, Fabian, I'll explore it tomorrow. Very kind of you!

The instructions are here: http://write.flossmanuals.net/thunderbird-workbook/installing-pgp-in-ubuntu/

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the link you were reading.

That site is not part of the Mozilla Thunderbird or Enigmail projects, unfortunately I don't have an account there and can't open one for such a quick fix. There doesn't seem to be a place or procedure to report such problems either, it's a shame.

Several images are also missing there and they don't use the exact terms for each component - this is often confusing. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenPGP .
