I have just updated to the most recent version of firefox (on Windows 10) and upon opening the browser I get a message "unable to connect." This happens no matter what website I go to. I have tried removing the old allowence in windows firewall and re-allowing it with no success. Opening firefox in safe mode also does not help. I have Avast free antivirus but I can't find any settings that block websites. It does not have a firewall in the free version so I don't expect that's the problem.

Avast is up to date. Can't find anything similar in the support forum.

Just tried uninstall and reinstall without success.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Already tried safe mode in browser. I just tried restarting my computer in safe mode (windows 10) and it put me in airplane mode with no way of turning it off or connecting to the internet. It looks like I have to hard-connect to my router and I don't have an ethernet cable. At this point I'm going to stick with chrome I think, this seems like way more trouble than it's worth.

Can give this a try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0.2 with a Full Version Installer

If the issue is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:

It's looking like an add-on might have been the issue, despite it being disabled upon the update. I haven't completely resolved the issue but I'm typing this on firefox so progress is being made. Thanks for the assistance!
