Downloaded images lose their extension

Hi, Lately when I drag images from websites the images lose their extensions and macOS does not know what sort of file it is. I use Firefox 57.0 on MacOS 10.13.1 (High Sierra). Restarting FF in safe mode without addons does not cure this. So it isn't a addons issue. Does anyone know a fix for this?
