Outlook calendar does not work with Thunderbird

more options

I spent over an hour with Microsoft people and they say my problem is not caused by them ... that it is a ThunderBird problem. My problem is this: when I click on my Calendar icon on my desktop to go to my Outlook calendar (or any other pathway) I get the message, "Hmmm...can't reach this page". Is this problem caused by TBird as MS suggests? Also, about 6 weeks before this started to happen, I started NOT GETTING all of my Calendar Notifications, sometimes I would get the all, other times I would get only some of them. Thanks for any help you can give me. PS ... it doesn't matter which of 3 browsers I use. Dick

What does the URL shortcut point to? For example, the link for a monthly view of the calendar might be:

Outlook.com, Live.com, or Hotmail account:

https://outlook.live.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/Month

Office 365 account:

https://outlook.office.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/Month

I should add that Thunderbird does not come with an ActiveSync connector, so it does not synchronize with Outlook.com/Office365 calendars. If you are missing calendar items in Thunderbird, that's the most likely explanation.

My Desktop Shortcut says "https://bay03.calendar.live.com/calendar/calendar.aspx"

That is a very old server name, probably 12+ months out of date. It may be that Microsoft has stopped redirecting old addresses to their latest equivalent.

Try creating a new shortcut after loading the calendar on the new "owa" path:

https://outlook.live.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/Month

How do I "load" my current calendar onto the new .owa path ... ESPECIALLY since I cannot get to it.

What happens when you try this link:

https://outlook.live.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/Month

Or if you go to

https://outlook.live.com/owa/

and use the button with the little squares to go to your Calendar?

The first link takes me to the new calendar with none of my entries carried over into it (imported), and I see no way to do an Import ... the second link takes me to an email screen and when I click on the small Calendar icon in the bottom left corner it also takes me to the same new calendar as the first link did.

Okay, so it sounds as if you did not previously use your Outlook.com account for your calendar, but instead you stored the information somewhere else. Is that correct?

Above the month view I have "Add calendar" with the option "From file" that indicates "Import events from an .ICS file to your existing calendar."

So perhaps your old calendar can generate a file in that format to import into Outlook.com?

Would that need to come from Lightning in Thunderbird? In this article, I think the part about exporting to an iCalendar file would be the most relevant: Exporting and sharing a calendar.

None of what I tried worked (from your 3 Responses) ... I always got to what had the screen format of what I was using (ie the screen looked exactly like the Calendar I have been using for years) ... but there were none of my entries there. I do not think I was using Lightning ... I looked at their screen format and it is completely foreign to me. Dick

If your calendar has always been online in your browser, then I cannot think of any connection between this problem and Thunderbird.

Your data was in a Microsoft account on live.com; you were using a shortcut to load a page on a Microsoft server.

Thunderbird does not sync calendar entries with Microsoft accounts without an additional add-on, and there's no indication you were using Lightning, much less had set up an add-on.

I assume Microsoft had you try Edge as well as Chrome. Same problem? I can't explain it.

I'm inclined to believe my problem is a Microsoft problem ... but I haven't been able to convince them of that. I have used 3 Browsers ... FireFox, I/E, and Edge and get the same result with all 3. Currently, I am involved with my second discussion with the MS Support people ... hopefully something will come of it. Thanks for all your help. Appreciate it. Dick PS - if you would like to see a Screenshot of the error message ... give me an email address to send it to ... I don't think I can do an Attach from here.

Thank you ... I didn't know how it worked ... was looking for something that might have used the word "Attachments". I hope "jscher 2000" sees this.

That's a pretty screen. Firefox's is a bit drab by comparison:

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at bay03.calendar.live.com.

As previously mentioned, a lot of old Outlook.com servers went offline when Microsoft moved everyone onto the OWA infrastructure. They redirected for a while, but now they are just gone.

I don't use the calendar on my Hotmail account, so I don't have any personal experience with the transition and whether users were losing data or need to look in some special place.
