Things were fine until a couple months ago. Now I can't use Firefox without the entire window blanking out. And not just the tab I'm currently working in, but ALL tabs. Things I was commenting on, surveys I was taking, emails I was responding to, EVERYTHING gets wiped out. I have no choice but to completely shut down Firefox Then I restart it, and it works ok for a few minutes and then totally blanks out again. In fact, I'm surprised I was able to make this whole post without the White Screen of Death.

FYI, I've run all antivirus and ensured no errors or issues that need resolved. I've cleared my browsing history and cache and that doesn't work. The "safe mode" doesn't work because then I can't do what I need to do. I've refreshed Firefox so many times, it's ridiculous and then I lose all my bookmarks, add-ons, and history.

Chosen solution

I see from your system details that you disabled your add-ons.

Please try Firefox Safe Mode to see if there is any difference.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (64 bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32 bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.
