I want to stop all activity in Firefox, until I enable it again.

I can always click the "Stop loading this page" button, or press Escape, in Firefox to cancel whatever is happening **at that time**. But seconds later, new activity might start and I'll have to again click the Stop button. What I would like and have not found is a button or command that simply stops all activity "forever" while viewing a Web page. The page would essentially be dead or static, unchanging, and nothing new would load into. No advertisements would load as I scroll down the page, nor would the page automatically refresh. Is that possible? I sure would like to have such an option. Thanks.
