Firefox crashes during startup

more options

Firefox v 54 crashes on startup. No plugins (all disabled). Windows 10 home, fully updated. Both regular and safe mode. Tried reinstalling, same result. Removed all vestiges of the application, including everything on the hard drive and in the registry, reboot, reinstall, same result. Created a new user account on computer, clean then reinstall, same result. Tried installing Firefox ESR 52.2.1, same result.

Sometimes gets as far as displaying the "oops this is embarrassing" screen, but that's it.

Updated Radeon HD 7660D graphics, same result.

This appears to have started when Windows 10 updated to version 1703.

Same crash ID generated every time, here it is:

Crash ID: bp-17b08629-e8fb-4888-8a0c-423ba0170711

Thanks for any help or ideas you can provide. Steve

Chosen solution

Thanks to cor-el and FredMcD for pointing me in the right direction. It was a Comodo issue but not related to Windows update KB4022716.

Removing and reinstalling Comodo fixed this. Updating Comodo in place does not work.

While working on the first system I had a second, then a third, do the same thing. Hopefully Comodo patches this with an in place fix soon... which looks likely since they already have a beta fix in place.

Thanks again for the assist folks. Its appreciated.

Please do this to check that your OS is not corrupted at all : Repair System Registry and Files

?Run the Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools as Administrator. The DISM and SFC tools scan the integrity of the Windows image and all protected system files replaces corrupted, damaged and incorrect versions. To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes) and press Enter. While running DISM you may notice the process will appear to pause at 20%. After a few minutes the operation will continue.

To run the SFC command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "SFC /SCANNOW" (without quotes) and press Enter.
