Firefox keeps crashing even though I tried everything to make it stop

Posted

My Firefox Browser crashes frequently on Windows 7, despite me having taken the following measures:

  • Install the most recent driver for my video card, which is an experimental one since the support for my video card has been discontinued (needless to say, this didn't CAUSE the crashes, because it crashed already before, when the normal driver was installed)
  • Disable all Add-Ons (obviously)
  • Disable all possible forms of hardware acceleration or anything like that in the options of Firefox (obviosly)
  • Re-install firefox a ton of times, partly re-setting all settings
  • Enable swapping space on my SSD, even though I got 8 Gigs of RAM and never do anything computationally intense while browsing, and in fact I never really use up even 3 Gigs of it
  • Re-installing Windows completely
  • Run a virus scan

I should also say that I repeatedly ran a memory error detection tool, which didn't find anything. Curiously, Chromium will also crash frequently, so that Opera is basically the only browser I can run stably; but Opera won't even let me choose my own default search engine and includes a number of very annoying advertisements, whence I'd rather stick to Firefox if possible. Hence, I'd really be grateful for any help.

The following is a random crash report; it's already a bit dated, but I stopped sending them to Mozilla after a while since they didn't really seem to process it: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/052f952d-87dd-4915-ae25-eff881170606

Update Kaspersky. If the problem continues, disable it.

Nope. The first post is information from your crash reports. The second is a possible solution.

I've already written SEVERAL TIMES that UNINSTALLING Kaspersky doesn't alleviate the problem. Please mind which thread you're in!

Furthermore, last time FF took down the whole system when it crashed. Naturally, there is no crash report for that incidence.

I mean, just theorizing right here. Is there something that has changed in your system? Maybe potential compatibility issues? New Windows update?

Anti-virus might not even be related to any of your issues. What about uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox? Could potentially yield some results. Maybe something from This Guide will help you out. Not sure though if it is any form of compatibility issue though.

I've already posted that I did re-install firefox several times, which had no effect whatsoever. Possibly, you just need to fix the bug.

I've switched to Opera now, the crashes are not bearable. Thank you for nothing at all.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, Opera is going to treat your better. I personally haven't had that many issues with Firefox, it has been consistently working well. But I do understand that with some configurations it can be an issue.
