Thunderbird 52 does not show all mail accounts

My copy of Thunderbird has just updated itself to version 52.0 On opening it for the first time, only one of my two IMAP accounts is visible in the left hand pane.

Some other things seem to be broken as well:

Clicking on Tools->Account Settings gives no response - no dialog is loaded, it just does nothing. All of my filters have disappeared.

The relevant folder is still there in the profiles folder.

The installed version, according to the ini file, is 52.1.1_20170509142926/20170509142926

Opening the error console gives me lots of lines saying:

NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgFolder.server]

These are repeated for folderPane.js and folderUtils.jsm.

However, since the error log enries are not timestamped I can't tell if these relate to the current issue.

Before I downgrade to a working version, a) has anyone else seen this problem, and b) is there a solution that doesn't involve downgrading?

Sorry for the delayed follow up to this - I downgraded to a know working release to solve the immediate problem, and I've only recently had the time to play around with it again.

Anyway, the answer is no, the problem is still there in safe mode. So it doesn't look like it's a plugin problem.

This problem should be gone in version 60, according to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1369343 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1360836

Please post a new topic if you see this problem in version 60.
