Thunderbird 48

I have this problem for over one year. Thunderbird cannot send email around 1PM (GMT time). Every single day, no exception! I can retrieve email, but I cannot send!

The error is: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) box950.bluehost.com timed out. Try again.

My host is BlueHost. The trace route to them seems ok:

1 167 ms 16 ms 4 ms speedport.ip [192.168.2.1] 2 13 ms 13 ms 11 ms 62.155.24x.8x 3 * 468 ms 61 ms f-ed3-i.F.DE.NET.DTAG.DE [62.154.1x.x22] 4 427 ms 31 ms 20 ms 80.157.129.250 5 23 ms 20 ms 21 ms ae-6.r20.frnkge04.de.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.6.248] 6 119 ms 112 ms 103 ms ae-8.r22.asbnva02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.4.96] 7 174 ms 170 ms 169 ms ae-5.r23.lsanca07.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.3.189] 8 177 ms 169 ms 169 ms ae-2.r01.lsanca07.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.4.107] 9 191 ms 185 ms 185 ms ae-0.endurance.lsanca07.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.198.182] 10 185 ms 184 ms 184 ms 69-195-64-130.unifiedlayer.com [69.195.64.130] 11 186 ms 186 ms 184 ms 162-144-240-159.unifiedlayer.com [162.144.240.159] 12 200 ms 194 ms 195 ms 162-144-240-15.unifiedlayer.com [162.144.240.15] 13 184 ms 180 ms 180 ms box950.bluehost.com [69.195.124.150]

I contacted BlueHost support over times (no exaggeration). They checked that this is not their problem this way: at 1 PM they made me login into their web email client and send emails. It worked so they blame Thunderbird.

How to check if this is a TB problem or BlueHost server problem?

Additional info: GMail works all the time. After 1:30 PM the problem magically disappear (I keep the email I want to send open until 1:30 and I send them then). I haven't changed the server settings in the last year. So, TB works (and fail at 1PM) using the same SMTP/POP3 settings. Since this problem is over 1 year old, it happen with multiple TB versions. My computer is Win 7 64bit.

Your provider tech support needs some education on how email works. Claiming that webmail works so it is not their problem is just ignorant. Webmail does not use SMTP servers like email clients do so there is no comparison to be made. There are no timers in Thunderbird. It attempts to deliver the message to your providers server. The server either accepts it or it doesn't. The SMTP server settings in Thunderbird are either correct or they are not. They do not change everyday at 1pm.

Are you losing Internet connection at that time? Is your Antivirus running a scan at that time delaying the process? If you run your computer in safe mode with networking from noon to 2pm do the messages send?

BlueHost support consist of a bunch of Indian guys with horrible English (sometimes I read their answer 4-5 times before I figure out what they meant).

> Is your Antivirus running a scan at that time delaying the process? I had KIS until 2014. Then I want a while without any protection. Now I only have a firewall.

> If you run your computer in safe mode with networking from noon to 2pm do the messages send? Nope.

> Are you losing Internet connection at that time? Nope. Browser is ok. All other servers (gmail, work mail) are fine.

I think the fact that TB is working with GMail server (at 1PM when BlueHost fails) instantly puts the problem in BlueHost's backyard. But they don't want to hear it! They blame TB. How can I prove the problem is not in TB?
