And top of screen has dimmed so that it is hard to read what my tabs and toolbar . It is not full screen like I had before. That is why I don't usually try to change anything. Messes up everything.

I'm not sure that I understand what you have done.

If the web page is zoomed then pressing Ctrl+0 (zero) will reset this. This shouldn't have a dimming effect though.

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • make sure you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

You may have installed a (lightweight) theme. You can uninstall this theme and revert to the 'Default' theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
