I seem to have contradicting information. I currently use a website that has a dependency on Java for authorizing payment. M preferred browser is Firefox. I was of the understanding that I would have to use an alternative browser from the end of 2016 and then I heard that this would now be 03/17. I recently saw a blog that suggested that Java support on Firefox 34 bit would be available up until 2018. Is this correct?

The exact date of this change may be later than planned. However, current thinking is:

Firefox 52 will be the last version that runs "NPAPI" plugins.

Users that need support beyond the regular lifetime of Firefox 52 can switch to the Extended Support Release version of Firefox 52 instead of moving to Firefox 53. The schedule will be clearer next Spring.

So you have plenty of time to change how your site handles payments.

Firefox 34.0 was made EOL once Firefox 35 was Released back then.

I am deeply frustrated by Firefox ceasing support for Java. You unfortunately are going to leave me no choice but to return to IE 11 as my default browser. I have a couple of game sites I frequent which use Java to be able to play their games. While I definitely hate IE 11, as I previously said, you are leaving me no choice. Please reconsider dumping Java.

I have never understood the hatred for Java. I have never had issues with it, whereas now that companies are moving to Flash, I have nothing BUT problems.

Here in support we have no ability to affect the timeline for plugin support. You can submit feedback on the following site, or Mozilla's Facebook, Twitter, and other communication channels:

Correction to my earlier reply:

Firefox 52 will still run the Flash plugin, but not the Java plugin.

Users that need Java will have to switch to the Extended Support Release version of Firefox 52 instead of the regular release. Both are scheduled to become available in early March 2017.

For Windows Firefox the Java Plugin has not been supported in the Win64 Firefox anyways (only 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight is white listed) as it only loaded in the 32-bit Firefox.

Note even Oracle is depreciating their vulnerable Java Plugin. https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/moving_to_a_plugin_free https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/updates_to_moving_to_a
