Thunderbird cannot see existing imap folders except INBOX

I am migrating a number of imap accounts from a web-based client to Thunderbird. Users' Inboxes are visible and incoming emails can be seen and read and outgoing emails go and arrive at the correct destination. However, all other folders including Trash, Sent, Drafts and all existing user-created folders cannot be seen. Also sent emails cannot be copied to the Sent folder (just hangs for ever).

I have tried all the commonly suggested actions such as unchecking Show subscribed folders only and trying to subscribe to folders but even the drop-down for subscribing is empty.

Chosen solution

It can't have been the user name as incoming email was visible so the correct Inbox was being retrieved so the correct user Maildir was found. But, as you say, it must have been some error in the original account setup. Thankfully, all is now good. Thanks again, Stephen

Are you sure you have set them up as IMAP? it sounds like pop, not IMAP.

what mail provider are you using?

When I look at the Server settings it definitely says IMAP Mail Server and the port is set to 993.

The IMAP server is the in-house Centos 7 server with dovecot.

I should have mentioned that the other accounts work as expected suggesting that the issue may be at the www.benparts server.

Another update. It now seems that I am the only user with this issue. Other users see all folders with TB as well as web-based EPL and Android K9.

I guess this means that it is my TB setup that is off.

Not necessarily. I would say the jury was still out.

But I would try disabling the sieve add-on and see if that helps. I could be breaking some other part of the IMAP experience. Especially as the add-on does not appear to have had any real updates in a couple of years.

The problem existed before I installed sieve (yesterday) and remains if I now disable it. Normally, the Inbox icon has an expand/collapse chevron. This account does not.

I just deleted the account and recreated it and the problem has gone away. I'm afraid I have no idea what might have changed.

Imap accounts get their folder names from the server. no chevron indicates that no synchronization occurred. So I guess there was an error in the account setup, like a typo in your user name.
