T-bird opens but does not work after latest W10 update. Uninstalling, reinstalling does not help

Program opens, downloads email from server, but is otherwise unresponsive to mouse clicks. This has happened after a windows 10 update last night. Task manager indicates that it is using ~125 Mbytes of memory, so it's doing something--contemplating its navel?

Found out about and tried safe mode. Does work in safe mode
