hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

On second thought, that did not fix the problem. It's still highlighting the address bar. I did a Firefox refresh but that did not fix it.

that the addressbar get's highlighted in blue when it is focused (which is also the case when you open a new tab) is normal on windows 10 - what isn't normal is that the previous address is still showing up after opening a new tab & this is where i assumed that one of your addons would interfere here...

Maybe I didn't pose my question correctly. Opening up a new tab will still keep the old tab open, with the old address showing. That's always been the case. That hasn't changed. What has changed is when I open the new tab, if I go back to the old tab, the website address in the old tab will now be highlighted in blue. That wasn't happening before, and I've been using Windows 10 for over a year now. I hope this makes more sense. I'm trying to find out why the old tab highlights the address. It's just kind of annoying that it's happening. I did a Firefox refresh and it seemed to fix this problem, but it's happening again.

As philipp notes, it is normal for Firefox to move the cursor into the address bar when you open a new tab using any of these methods:

• click the the new tab "+" button
• press Ctrl+t on the keyboard
• (menu bar) File > New Tab

Usually the bar is blank so nothing is selected, you just get a flashing cursor.

If you are using an add-on to replace the built-in new tab page with a different page, then it would make sense for its address to be selected. If you want to move the cursor into the page (e.g., into the Google search box), you could consider using this extension:

To set the desired page, open the Add-ons page using either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Cmd+Shift+a)
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, find Custom New Tab and click its Options button.

Entering your preferred home page address is simple. If you do not check either of the boxes, the extension will set the focus in the page so, for example, the cursor will be in the Google search box.

When I tested this a while back, I had to exit Firefox and start it up again before Custom New Tab started working, but this may have been due to testing so many extensions back-to-back.

are you using firefox sync? maybe the extension causing it gets installed again this way after a refresh of the browser...

jscher2000, Please read my question again. While I appreciate your response, it does not address my problem. Picture my firefox browser with one tab opened. Now picture me opening up a new tab (using the + option). When the NEW tab opens, the PREVIOUSLY opened tab will now highlight the address bar. This keeps happening every time I open a new tab. I am trying to find out why the previously opened tab highlights the address bar and I'm trying to stop that from happening. Thanks

if you don't know, then you probably aren't using it - but you could still check it in the firefox menu ≡ > options > sync panel...

I'm pretty sure I'm not using it. I'm about ready to go back to IE now. Thanks for your help.
