4/22/16: Originally, I had issues with incoming email landing in first sub-folder under Inbox. Could not get default to change. Uninstalled and re-installed software three times, restarting machine each time between uninstall and reinstall. Windows 7 on Intel PC new 2012.

Now Thunderbird V45 Crashes immediately upon opening software. Brings up crash report immediately, but no time for incoming e-mail. Won't even allow new test version of 46 to be used. Crashes immediately too.

I love Thunderbird and Firefox products! I haven't had these issues before and I'm just sad I can't get this fixed on my own.

Any advise - suggestions? I was thinking about going back to a previous version, but can't find one that will allow me to download it...

These are the Crash Reports submitted [in order] in regards to my issue on 4/20 [first nine reports], 4/21 & 4/22: Crash ID: bp-7b4b394d-0a3b-40a6-abbd-336122160420 Crash ID: bp-62575bee-64e5-4ea3-98ac-71d0a2160420 Crash ID: bp-df9b2d64-8fbc-4668-906c-783ed2160421 Crash ID: bp-f8e5aaf2-e6b1-4124-85f0-8535a2160421 Crash ID: bp-ebc62ce9-6598-496f-8fd1-dfe362160421 Crash ID: bp-4747d198-fd24-46fe-8f43-cbaf22160421 Crash ID: bp-67eba754-6d7b-4d6b-98f1-1cf912160421 Crash ID: bp-2d3653ba-928d-453f-80fe-5d7222160421 Crash ID: bp-ffc9ba75-3d0e-4c15-b46c-1d20c2160421 Crash ID: bp-2f98d3a2-05ac-47d0-a22a-7c3ca2160423 [EarlyBird]

The crashes are all about 'Out of memory'. Is there any specific thing you're doing?

Have you tried to start Thunderbird in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Opened in Safe Mode. Popup stated - Following Add On is not compatible with this version of TB and will be disabled: Extra Folder Columns 1.1.5

I clicked "Check Now" box and continued in Safe Mode. TB opened for a quick view of Inbox, then crashed immediately.

Software Details: Windows 7 Home Premium, Ver 6.1 [Build 7601: Service Pack 1] Thunderbird Ver 45.0

Crash Reports: bp-eafd35e7-ac69-443c-9aff-e340f2160424 bp-923b4fb4-ed7d-4c6d-a4dd-24b682160424 bp-520c1364-45be-4b7f-89d4-25b702160424

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to review and assist me with this. I look forward to having my favorite software up and working again.

Remove the Extra Folder Columns extension, the functionality is built-in as of Thunderbird 38.

Could you explain in a step-by-step format how I can change this on the back side? TB doesn't stay up long enough for me to remove it from the Add On list and I don't where I should look for it on the back side. I can do it if you give me the game plan...

I'm so excited that I'm this close to getting my TB back! I have missed my TB!

THANK YOU so much!

Also, when I remove the columns, will that also take away my first issue?

All incoming e-mail landing in first subfolder, listed under Inbox.

Thanks, Valerie

Whether removing the Extra Folder Columns extension would let you get rid of the crashes I don't know. So don't hold your breath.

There are two bugs linked to the crash, however, these do not seem to be specific to Thunderbird. So don't expect a quick fix.

For the time being, try to revert to TB 38.7.2. If it doesn't crash remove the Extra Folder Columns extension. Then update to v45 again and see if it still crashes.

Before you do anything, create a full backup of your Thunderbird profile. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

You can download the old version for your language from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/38.7.2/win32/

I'm sorry, I don't know which "dir" to select from the backup Directory to restore 38.7.2. Could you please let me know which one to select from the software details I listed above [in previous post].

I had done a partial backup, but by doing a full backup, will that capture and store the issue I'm currently having, as well as my files and details?

Again, Thanks in advance!

Pick the one for your language. E.g. 'en-US' stands for US English (as opposed to British English - 'en-GB').

Backing up the profile will backup all your data, i.e. settings, mail, filters, contacts, etc.

Frustrated beyond belief! I removed 45 and then downloaded 38. It was unsuccessful in Safe Mode and without. Then I downloaded 37. Same results. Then 31.8. Even tried installing in a different location on my computer. All opened in Safe Mode, disabling AddOns - with the same crash results. Here are the reports: bp-50b18c92-a2f7-453b-9cdf-95f0b2160428 bp-75a2f4c1-5595-42c9-9cfd-076302160428 bp-4ec8a5b6-f91c-45d5-9c65-9a2792160428 bp-cbcbfda0-8310-4df4-a60e-8a38d2160428 bp-c473c45e-a626-46ae-a2b1-f47d22160428 bp-92ff11ab-974b-4968-9e36-519042160428 bp-ed2b1c06-6bcb-4b1e-ad6d-d1dd62160428 bp-fb7d5358-8620-4f74-a417-071b32160428 Thanks for all your help! I guess I just have something missing that's a key component to making this all work now.

1. Please explain what you mean by "issues with incoming mail landing in folder other than Inbox." 2. in your profile folder [1] rename "extensions" directory to old-extensions, with thunderbird not running.

If you still crash, in profile find mail/<your pop mail account> rename msgFilterRules.dat to old-msgFilterRules.dat

Do you still crash on startup?

Okay, sorry for the delay in getting back to you...life got a little hectic. TB continued to crash, even with the older version installed so I did the following: Uninstalled all versions of TB Moved the folders for my profile, email defaults and mail to another folder on the back side and restarted machine. Then I re-installed TB 38.7.2 and moved my email default folders over [under Roaming] so that I could check to see if mail could be received. No crashes, mail arrived. Then I copied the new mail into my old Inbox folder Moved all my local folders over, including my Sent, Unsent and msgFilterRules.dat. I then started to clean up files within TB and it crashed and continued to crash. So I removed the Inbox folders and restarted TB ... no problems Moved the Inbox and associated folders only. Again worked fine. Then moved the Sent, Unsent and Draft folders. Worked okay. Moved the msgFilterRules.dat file in. Began to crash again while trying to receive new e-mail, so I moved it back out. Reopened TB and still had issues so I moved the Sent and Unsent Message folders out. That also caused the and Draft folders to disappear between transfer - still can't locate, but I'm having no issues with e-mail for three days now. I have more time to play again this weekend, so I'll try to rebuild a new filter file and test. Then I'll locate my backed up Sent and Draft folders and move them into TB and test again. I'll share when I know more. Thanks for the help! I now know how to locate older versions and how to select the correct ones for install and I'll do a little more testing before I move on up to the new versions. Since this is the version I liked the best [it counts my Unread files at least - liked it when I could see all my counts], I'll probably stick with it for a while longer Again, thank you for your patience and guidance!
