Every message shows date as the 5th of the month when it arrived. Why?
I'm using Thunderbird 38.5.1 on my Mac. Since the recent update, all of my messages show the date as the 5th day of the month when they arrived. So, my messages for this month all show as the 5th of January. All last month's messages show as the 5th of December....
I don't know what's causing this and I don't know how to fix it.
I tried with no add-ons running and that didn't change anything.

Is the actual date time format for OSX set correctly? I an thinking the 5th might have something to do with a bastardized representation of the 2015 year.

what happens if you right click the folder, select properties and then the repair button.
I tried to repair a folder, and nothing changed. The thing is, this is showing in every folder, of every mailbox, for every email address that I have on Thunderbird.
Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
I tried to restart with add-ons disabled before I submitted the request, but nothing changed. The only one I have is Lightning. I tried again just to be sure though, and nothing changed. It's a very weird issue, isn't it? Another strange thing is that if I try to forward a message, that forwarded message shows the correct time that I received the message within it.

view the message source of a message. is there any reference to that date anywhere? Ctrl +F will enable the search pane in the source view
I'm not quite sure what you mean, sorry. Are you asking me to search for a date within a message? If so, which date would I search for? I would just search for the number 5 within a message?
if you use a small message the number 5 should give you a fine enough search criteria.
First have a look and the source (ctrl+U) the first line will be a date, It should look like
From - Tue Jan 26 13:46:56 2016
Not far after that there should be a line that starts with Dates: which is very easily visible as a date and time . It should look like
Date: Tue, 26 Jan 2016 03:14:20 -0000
Take a special notice of the number that follows the date time. That should be the time offset to GMT Greenwich being +0000 Sydney being +1000 and Illinois being -0600 for example.
There's nothing in there showing anything beyond what I would expect based on the time zones of the senders/recipients. Nothing related to the number 5 in any messages is standing out, no.
restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu. Still an issue?
Yes, still an issue.

Ah, that was it. I've never changed the settings in there, but when I played around with the settings (I didn't change the time or date, both of which were correct) just the layout in the settings, it fixed the issue.
