I am 74 & have relied on my son for computer help. He got married & moved to GA so I am left alone to switch from 7 to 10 on my Gateway PC. I have hit several dead ends that I don't know what to do about, but thought this would be a simple fix. It's not. Something is missing on my instructions - the first page ends in a question mark in a yellow box.

Firefox is a web browser much like Windows Internet Explorer. Yahoo is a search engine.

Are you talking about your home page? (What Firefox shows when it is opened)

The default browser only applies if you click a link in an external program.

If Yahoo opens when you start Firefox then check the home page setting.

You can find the home page setting here:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Note that some extensions might be hidden and only show in Safe Mode.

Thank you Fred, I'm digitally challenged.

Mozilla Firefox are the words...red ball, blue fox. My son put me on Mozilla over a year ago, I'd say. There was a smooth transition from my home page to whatever I opened - I've had 10 for awhile & actually forgot what came up. Maybe it was Google. It was not Yahoo which is rather poor. I guess its Yahoo I DON'T want. Can you tell me how to go back to Google?

So if I only have Mozilla as the name on my homepage what do I want Mozilla for?

Thanks, Pat

The default built-in home page is the about:home page. This page has a search bar that use the search engine as set in "Options/Preferences > Search".

If you prefer the Google website then set the home page to this URL:
