can I still import an .xpi file into the new calendar?

The xpi is the Lightning extension itself. It does not have your calendar data. You can download Lightning from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/ , but I guess that isn't your problem.

The easiest would way would be to restore a backup of your Thunderbird profile if you have a backup.

But I do have some file copies,

What files exactly do you have? What you'd need is basically an export of your calendar, which you could then import into the new profile on the backup computer.

Dear folks, I will be grateful for all/any suggestions. This is what I currently have, (and cash is short at the moment. Even shorter now, since I lost my calendar with all my scheduled jobs/contacts.) The list: .the 600G HD of my formerly awesome, but now very dead, computer with almost 300G of system/data files.... .a system image on a 1T removable HD. Also on this are separate copies of My Docs/etc. Unfortunately Downloads are not in this, which I thought would be, but Windows Libraries had its own ideas. . a friend has consoled me with a crashed old very basic W7pro/120G HD which I resuscitated, updated and hooked up an older 300G removable HD. This small basic laptop with the middle part of the keys missing, has a 120G hd, and only 1.5 G RAM, dual 2 GH ICU and will not take the system image of my quad 7! .He also bestowed me with a new looking, large screen Thinkpad, XP, 60G HD, dual 2GH CPU, .97 G RAM, which I managed to unlock from the fingerprint lock he left on, updated with SP3 etc. and now use for Google and Gtalk, my main phone.. Any advice? I am wondering if can I make an external HD out of my sata HD, but the parts are all expensive and would have to be mail ordered, as I live out in the sticks. Not even cell phone signal. Internet almost as fast as dial up was 20 years ago. Willing to learn..... bring it on.

If the disk of your 'formerly awesome' computer is really dead, get a new one and restore the system image to it. Disks aren't really expensive anymore.

No on either computer. Both the system image and the backup look like a series of hex.zip and My Backup will not open them on either. Thanks for helping

I have My Docs/Pictures/Music, whatever was under my Username from a 3rd backup I did. Usually that includes My downloads too, not this time it didn't, nor does it have any settings. Windows Libraries tricked me. Thanks for responding

THE 3RD BACKUP IS JUST A DRAG AND DROP COPY OF MY USER FILES LIKE MY DOCUMENTS, ETC.

How does one restore a system image to a different computer that the one that made it and has burned out its mother board most likely? That would solve all my woes....

The Windows My backup utility just will not open it on neither the XP business Thinkpad nor the HP (2008) W7pro (smaller and less powerful than the 2002 XP) computers given to me My dead W7pro computer was bought in 2011 and was the top of the Toshiba Satellite line at that time. 8G of RAM

The software you used to create the disk image should also be capable to restore it.

On the system image I could eventually find the thunderbird data, but it would take years, so I wish I could get the same Windows Backup utility that made it to open it on this different and older/updated W7pro.....

Or better yet, I need to make the Hard Drive of the dead computer into an external hard drive, since there isn't room on this little thing for my files anyhoe....

I thought you said it was dead. If your old HD still is alive it could with an adapter be accessed thru an usb 2.0 port and you can save your profile and calendar-data

Sorry about the confusion. I think the motherboard or such burned out because I didn't even get the blue screen of death. Battery and power supply are fine. I am buying a $10 kit in the hope that I'll be able to get to my data, It will take a week to get here, And I will never trust Windows Backup again. Just copy and paste from now on. I posted screenshots of my backups.
