I have been bookmarking website for quite some time. I went to pull up a page earlier today and all my new bookmarks are GONE!!!!! I have something called Pocket on my toolbar. I was able to save a few pages there but I need my Bookmarks that I have saved recently. They are no where to be found.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If you have the IE Tab or Tree Style Tab extension then try to disable this extension as there have been issues reported with this extension and bookmarking.

Sorry to hear about that. If you look in the Library dialog, are your missing bookmarks still listed there? You can open that using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • "Show All Bookmarks"

Is it possible that your Firefox bookmarks could have been affected by either of these:

  • Using the Sync service with another device
  • Using the Windows "system restore" feature to roll back recent changes

By the way, are you running Windows XP or are you running a later Windows with "compatibility mode" set to Windows XP? Just want to confirm that in case you need to explore on disk because user data is stored in a different folder on XP.

I forgot to mention: if you bookmark sites by single-clicking on the blue star, and you don't relocate them, then check the "Unsorted Bookmarks" category in the Library dialog. You can drag and drop or cut and paste them from there into a new location.

I removed the IE Tab and it works now but my bookmarks between then and now are still no where to be found :(

You can check the item count number in automatically created compressed .jsonlz4 backups to see if there is a backup that might have the lost bookmark(s).

The name of a JSON bookmarks backup file includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
