I did an upgrade and it is the worst thing that I could have ever done. All of my bookmarks are gone and I have them in an old folder but they will not open in the updated firefox.

Please someone help I am so frustrated because I have spent my night trying to find bookmarks. I'm going back to other browsers at least they know how to do upgrades without loosing information, This is the most horrible experience I have ever had with a browser including IE which sucks!

Please help me either restore my old profile or help me to open my old bookmarks!

When you reset/refresh Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Did you check the bookmarkbackups folder in the current Firefox profile folder?

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

If the bookmarkbackups folder is empty or only has backups created recently after the refresh then try to copy the files in the bookmarkbackups folder on the desktop to the current profile folder.

Then you can try to recover the bookmarks from a JSON backup.

Note that the name of the compressed .jsonlz4 backup includes an item count.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item-count>_<hash>.jsonlz4
