can I transfer the Internet Explorer Address file into Firefox

I am changing from Internet Explorer to Thunderbird for my email activity. I have a well develop address book in Explorer and would like to import this address file instead or recreating it in Thunderbird. Is this possible? How?

In Internet Explorer, is the address book a feature of your email website? In that case, the site probably has the ability to export the address book to a format that hopefully Thunderbird can import. For specific suggestions, what webmail site is it (e.g., Gmail, Hotmail/Outlook, etc.)?
