deleted emails reloading up to three times

I have suffered this problem ever since loading Mozilla Thunderbird, when I delete read or unwanted mails they return time and time again - mostly three times before they never return again.

I have tried all the recommended fixes on the forum - cleared deleted, junk and compressed (what ever the term is); nothing alleviates the problem.

Why does Thunderbird do this and can I fix it before I have to find another Mail program to get my emails?

have you tried disabling the email scanner in your anti virus program? They often cause such issues.

Sorry Matt the scanning of emails doesn't seem to be a source of the problem.

Have you had scanning turned off for a week and it occurred? Would this be an outlook.com account? I have issues with them because their system is apparently simply sluggish and not doing hat they say it does in a timely fashion.
