Looking for a version of firefox that supports html4/javascript (framesets) and ONLY runs offline.

I have about 10,000 HTML4 files that use framesets. These are not public content and I only use them offline. Converting to HTML5 is not an option. I would like to find a simple way to run/use this old content and still have a newer Firefox to use online.

Framesets should work properly in newer versions of firefox, so you should just be able to use the newest version.

Thank you, but this does not help. The deprecated HTML4 will eventually not be supported. This is already the case with Safari/Yosemite. Also, the newer versions of Firefox will not lock into offline mode. I need a version of Firefox that will not run in online mode. Also old enough to allow javascript control of the status bar and navigation bars would be nice. Security will not be an issue if this Firefox is only offline. How far back do I have to go to get a version that will work for me? Then I will have to figure out how to have two Firefoxes.

I'm not aware of a way to lock out network access in Firefox. Do you want to bar the http and https protocols and limit it to the file:// protocol?

There is an -offline startup switch for SeaMonkey, which is a suite based on the same browsing engine as Firefox (but it also does email).

Perhaps using SeaMonkey for local files and Firefox for general browsing would be a solution.

The forum software detected your Firefox as version 32. Is that correct?

Version 32 is not secure; Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 36? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.

If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 36.0.4, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

Yes, I do want to limit it to the file:// protocol

I was not aware of SeaMonkey. I will look at it and see if it will support my old code. I like the concept of an offline startup switch. Firefox should have that. Thank you.

I am on version 32 because it works with Windows XP.

Old = Obsolete - and I am feeling it.

I have to get off-line now. Thank-you for your help.

Firefox 36 works with windows XP as well. See https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/36.0.4/system-requirements/

Try using Firefox Portable installed to your hard drive. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Older versions of Firefox Portable are available from Sourceforge. http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./

When you install Firefox Portable to your hard drive it will be completely separate from your other Firefox installation; it doesn't use your official Firefox Profile.
