How do I set my Firefox to open my custom homepage when I open a new tab?

more options

I would like to be allowed to be automatically taken to my custom homepage (google.com) every time I open I new tab. It seems that this should be simple and easy to do, but it is not. I have looked at several forum posts with a similar problem, but all of them tell me to edit the about:Config and enter "about:home" into the browser.newtab.url preference name entry. I do so but this only takes me to the default Firefox homepage every time I open I new tab, I would like it to take me to my set homepage.

Hi, about:home is indeed the Firefox start page. So in browser.newtab.url try changing it to google.com

Hope that works for you.

You can set the home page in the Options/Preferences > General.

You need to set the new tab page via the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page. See this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):

If you want that to be the Google website then set the pref to google.com

When entering the URL either as your home page or new tab page, I suggest using the full URL https://www.google.com/ since otherwise there is a slight delay as Google redirects Firefox to the secure page.
